Position Summary

The Bar Assistant (Barback) keeps the bar fully stocked, clean, and service-ready, supporting the bartenders so the beverage program runs flawlessly. This role handles prep, restocking, glassware, ice, and cleanliness throughout service. The ideal candidate is hardworking, anticipatory, and eager to learn the craft and grow into a bartending role.

Compensation

$5.50 per hour base wage plus tips. This is a tipped position and an Ohio tip credit applies; combined cash wages and tips are guaranteed to equal at least Ohio’s full minimum wage of $11.00 per hour, and typically exceed it substantially with tips.

Key Responsibilities

Bar Stocking & Prep

  • Prepare garnishes, juices, syrups, and mixers to bar program standards
  • Stock liquor, beer, wine, glassware, ice, and supplies before and during service
  • Ensure the bar is fully set and service-ready at all times

Cleanliness & Organization

  • Maintain immaculate cleanliness of the bar, wells, coolers, and service stations
  • Wash, polish, and organize glassware and bar tools to fine-dining standards
  • Keep floors, mats, and walkways clean, dry, and unobstructed

Service Support

  • Support Bartenders by anticipating needs and replenishing supplies in real time
  • Assist with running drinks and clearing glassware as needed
  • Help maintain pacing and flow at the bar during peak service

Inventory & Restocking

  • Rotate stock and monitor par levels, communicating low inventory to the Bar Supervisor
  • Transport and store deliveries safely and correctly
  • Help maintain accurate, organized storage areas

Safety & Standards

  • Follow all sanitation, hygiene, and safety protocols
  • Handle glassware, equipment, and alcohol responsibly and professionally
  • Maintain a polished appearance and professional demeanor at all times

Qualifications

  • 0–2 years of bar or restaurant experience (fine dining preferred but not required)
  • Strong work ethic, stamina, and ability to stay focused during busy service
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills
  • Attention to detail and a commitment to cleanliness and organization
  • Must meet Ohio minimum age requirements for handling alcohol
  • Willingness to learn the beverage program and Japanese hospitality standards
